The idea of having a predestined course in life has been shaped by our society and social classes. A predestined life may seem adequate for those in higher power or wealthier families, but not for families who are less fortunate. Being able to steer your own course in life is what makes people human, but with the format of educational systems in the US. Being in control has become harder for those out of power to attain. Being more concise, it’s the idea that different social classes make up this decision on whether or not education will improve someone 's chances in the later future. People with more wealth and power tend to think differently on education, by believing that education will always bring success. Staples noted in his article “the students, who are becoming increasingly restive about the cost of a first-tier diploma, which now exceeds $120,000,” (Staples 1066). This is one of the main factors in why students are fearful to attend college. With the high costs of education, the lower class society will end up facing serious debt due to college loans. Whereas for the higher social class people, who have the money to send a child to school will have better opportunities and chances for success as they will be a step ahead of those less privileged, creating an even larger gap between the social classes.
