Saint Cloud: An Intertextual Analysis

Improved Essays
In order to find objects and environments that I could relate to art history that I have learned in this class I decided to take a walk around my neighborhood and its nearby surroundings. I live in Kissimmee and extremely close to Saint Cloud so I decided to start off by looking around the Lakefront Park area. At first I did not think that I would be able to find many things that I would be able to relate to art, but I think that is because I had never actually tried to pay attention to small details. The area of Saint Cloud that I began looking at has a lot of very old homes that I found to be very interesting and that I knew I would be able to make a connection with something in the textbook. After looking at the architecture of a few homes I began finding more objects that I found I could relate to something that I have learned in …show more content…
I took a picture of it because I knew that I had seen something with similar characteristics, but I just could not remember what it was. After going through my textbook I realized that the windows of the house that I had seen while leaving the park were very similar to the windows located on the Dome of the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, “which is a round structure attached to Turin cathedral” (Davies et al. 2011, p. 682). The windows in the Dome of the Chapel of the Holy Shroud are rounded and have six separate sections with another smaller circle in the middle that contains four smaller sections, which is very similar to the windows of the home. The windows I saw on my way home are rounded and contain seven sections with another smaller circle in the middle with no sections. The style of the windows are almost exactly the same and I found it to be interesting that I would be able to compare something to the Dome of the Chapel of the Holy Shroud that is so close to where I

Throughout history art has been a major aspect of human civilization. Over time art has evolved and shifted from different eras and civilizations. For my report, I chose to visit the Timken Museum, in Balboa Park, where I saw the View of Volterra by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. The scene in Camille Corot’s the View of Volterra depicts a distant view of the town of Volterra. In the scene we see a lush countryside, with a man on a horse who appears to be talking to someone sitting, in the shade of a tree, besides the trail leading up to the town sitting in the background.…

For this assignment, I visited the Hickory Museum of Art (HMA) in Hickory, North Carolina. Their major exhibition was “Unexpected Beauty,” a collection of photographs by photojournalist Steve McCurry. I observed several ways in which the HMA replicated historic museums practices, especially in regards to the museum effect, princely galleries, and above all, reinforcing an emphasis on the visual. By visiting the HMA I gained a firsthand experience of what these practices look like and the impacts they can have on viewers. The “museum effect” certainly came into play (Alpers 1991).…

I have always had a passion for history and storytelling since I was a child and decided in seventh grade world history class that I wanted to be an archaeologist, discovering ancient cultures and uncovering their secrets. I maintained this plan, arriving at Boston University as an archaeology major but after several semesters of study realized that it wasn’t the exact path for me. I began to grow my appreciation of museums, admiring how they could ignite wonder, curiosity, and learning in myself and others. I realized this was where I felt most at home. Therefore, I decided to change my major to art history, while retaining an archaeology minor, and explore history through the lens of artist’s interpretations and ideas.…

I went to the St Louis Art Museum and after attending I believe that I do have a better understanding of the artwork. All the art pieces were spread out through the art museum. They had spaces dedicated to old fashion, furniture sets and a site-specific art piece that Andy Goldsworthy did for the museum. They also at the time had a flower show being put together at the museum where one artwork would get to recreate a piece of work made out of flowers and you were really able to see how the flowers related to the artwork. There are plenty of resources available for attendees.…
