I for one am not a proponent of playoff expansion in the NFL. The old phrase “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” perfectly exemplifies why the NFL shouldn’t expand beyond 12 teams. The NFL playoffs expanded to include 12 teams prior to the 1990 NFL season, and since then, expansion to include another two teams has been discussed a number of times, but each time the notion has been dismissed. …show more content…
The more teams a league allows into the playoffs the less likely the “best team” actually wins the championship. Now, as we have seen in the past, the “best team” doesn’t always win the Super Bowl, but for the most part, outside of a few outliers the teams that dominate during the season usually end up in the Super Bowl. Adding two more teams would only add more randomness and chance in determining the Super Bowl champion, and in my opinion that is not good for business. Sure, it would be fun to add a few more playoff games, but at what cost? How far is the league willing to go to make a few extra million
