In the world we live in now, who doesn't own a mobile device? I do. We see them everywhere we go. They influence our lives in so many ways. I love my phone and the things it does for me. This is the 21st Century. If you don't have a cell phone of some kind, then you don't live in the same world as the rest of us. We depend on our mobile gadgets in so many ways it makes it almost impossible to exist without one, but the real question is the world we live in now healthy? I had a pretty eye-opening experience when I lived in Japan as a volunteer missionary for the LDS church. Anyone who knows anything about Japan understands that they are a very technologically advanced country. In some ways even more than America, and they cherish their …show more content…
Some say these devices are brilliant. Others say mobile devices have negative effects on our lives. If they are right this could pose a big problem. How big of a problem? According to a recent research done by Pew Research Center, as of October 2014 it is estimated that 90% of adults in America own a cell phone, and 64% of those adults own a smartphone. Many under age students and children have a cell phone as well. That's an incredibly large number of people in this country who own mobile devices. Hundreds of millions of people are accessing the virtual world. Now if there are damaging effects of mobile devices a huge percentage of our country should be concerned. Its incredible all of the things we can do with the pieces of hardware that nestle in our pockets. From an educational point of view learning can be much more proficient when we have our mobile devices with us to help teach and guide us. Dr. Pere Marques Graell, who is a director of research at the University of Barcelona preformed a yearlong study and found that children who used tablets in their class efforts had boosted learning capabilities and understanding of new concepts. (Carr) Technology, especially mobile devices, is finding its way into the educational world. Those of us who are students know this to be true, and it seems to be pretty effective.
