Asu150 Week 1 Reflection

ASU150 has taught me that the past has no power over the present moment. The most important concepts I absorbed this semester include the power and importance of ones growth mindset, ones approach to S.T.E.P, and the significance of a balanced life. Easily one of my favorite quotes from Gina this year has to be “Do not hold onto thoughts that do not allow your mind to move forward.” I feel this quote is essential to the class because so much of our lives are created in what we think at this very moment.
Mindfulness is what I will carry forward into the next semester. Becoming mindful is a habit you have to practice for it to become second nature. Mindfulness is defined as “a mental state achieved by focusing one 's awareness on the present

For example, when I start my company, my mentality will be to serve the customers, the employees and myself. Constant communication with customers and business development is what makes a dominant organization. As a business owner myself, I know the “constant work mindset” can take its toll on your personal health and that’s why frequent evaluations of your stress levels are important. Considering personal initiatives will allow you to enjoy your journey much more. Life is all about balance. (S.T.E.P.) is absolutely necessary for the goals and ambitions of my company. As we know, failing to plan is planning to fail, and that’s why having a plan such as (S.T.E.P.) is so significant. Another way the lessons above can be applied to my future is through relationships. All too often I see people get into relationships to “get something” for themselves, when in fact, a healthy relation should be a place to go to give. A simple alteration of the mindset can change a whole lot. Also, learning from your losses is a great way to find more balance in your life because you become mindful of what works and what doesn’t, then you can make a well-informed decision to better yourself and the situation. A challenge I believe everybody faces, in and out of class, has to do with ourselves convincing ourselves that we can wait to get something done. This attitude is directly related to procrastination and it will stress us out in the long run. Teenagers are the product of their environment, their upbringing and their choices. With so many temptations around us 24 hours a day, teens must ask themselves if their choices are proactive or reactive. To be successful, teenagers must take responsibility for their choices and their lives. People today have a “fast-food mentality” (which I’m sure you’ve heard of) and this consist of wanting everything, as fast as possible,

Mindfulness is defined as “a state of mind or mode of practice that permits the questioning of expectations, knowledge, and the adequacy of routines in complex and not fully predictable social, technological, and physical settings. Mindfulness does not exclude or oppose the idea of routines, but may in fact build upon routinized action”. (Rerup, 2005; Levinthal and Rerup, 2006). I try to remain mindful as a nurse so that I may provide the best patient care possible as well as in my working relationships. If you are mindful of your surroundings it helps a person adapt to new situations…

Until very recently, I have had little to no knowledge or contact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture and heritage. My knowledge came from sections of high school history classes. Before entering ABST100, I had a broad understanding on the history of colonization, Indigenous Australians themselves, and on Indigenous Identity. However, over the duration of both Week 1’s tutorial and lecture, I quickly noticed that the course content for Introducing Indigenous Australia was very different from my other subjects, where it allowed me to gain an exceptional amount of knowledge and broaden my views on Indigenous Australia and Indigenous Australians.…

In his book The Rise and Fall of the American Teenager, author Thomas Hine describes this stage of life as energetic and exciting, adding that teenagers carry qualities our culture simultaneously loves and fears, such as boldness, greed and being idealistic (Hine, p. 10-11). The behavior of teenagers is influenced by a multitude of factors. One of those factors includes social class, which can influence how teenagers socialize, as well as how they are treated in their education endeavors.…

Short Term 12 was a very interesting movie. It had hints of being realistic, but with aspects where you knew it was a movie. It’s about a group of workers who work in a foster care residential facility setting. The main character, Grace, deals with her own personal struggles while she supervises the children at the facility. I have a short bit of experience at a facility like Short Term 12 in some aspects; I can see where parts of the movie are realistic and where are some are an exaggeration because it is a movie.…

Law school is more so like a marathon then it is a sprint. With first semester completed and the first bend in the road being overcome it is important to assess how to continue the race and finish with vigor. After reading some portions of Mindfulness for Law Students by Scott Rogers I have come to realize that becoming mindful of one’s thoughts can be greatly beneficial. I do not believe mindfulness is something that should be done occasionally or once a day, rather, I think mindfulness is best practiced throughout ones day.…

Prior to completing ENGL 2200, I had many misconceptions. I believed creativity to simply turn a new and innovative idea into reality and in order to be creative as well as imaginative you must act on the ideas you develop. I learned that creativity is so much more in addition to being the foundation for developing newer technology, literature, artwork, and so much more in life. I also believed imagination to be a personal thing and what stimulates thoughts for myself may not be the same thing that stimulates thoughts for others. I am the type of person who when faced with a problem that needs a solution, I generate ideas with fluency and flexibility.…

School can be like a masquerade, but with less romance and more tension. When I was a teen I started to realize and learn that people can be different, sometimes people use these changes as an advantage which caused people to act like somebody else as if they were putting a “mask” This applies to having a “mindset”, in this case they’re relatively closer to having a fixed mindset, whereas some people will not be afraid at all that they will rather embrace it which makes them have a mindset closer to a growth mindset. In addition to further understanding of mindsets, the mindset are the growth mindsets and the fixed mindsets which were both established by Professor Dweck a Psychology professor at Stanford University. The growth mindset is “the…

I had prior experience with mindfulness, but my consistent effort with practicing this semester led to better benefits than I had previously experienced regarding meditation. I enjoyed the structure of the weekly lessons, and learned more about the concept of mindlessness. This gave me motivation to practice, and strive for more mindful living, in general. I feel calmer, more centered, and have more cognitive clarity than I have felt in some time because of my mindfulness practice this semester. This has led to more cognitive and social flexibility—further increasing positive outcomes for me, and thus engendering positive emotions.…
