Merit-based Should be Implemented The best part of merit-based pay is that it is an original subjective pay system, meaning that not only is the amount of pay determined by the administration, but the requirements are determined by the teachers and educators themselves. This portion of the proposal should not be overlooked, in fact, it should be taken advantage of. The idea that the people being paid, would be able to decide on their method of pay is an innovative concept. It is important that the people who would be most affected by change, are the ones making that choice to change willfully. Teachers and educators should be given the opportunity to deliberate on the details of merit-based pay, and should be able to openly communicate their comments, questions and concerns with their superintendents and board of education. The qualifications they choose to set as a standard, should be reevaluated after a few years so that the compensations and requirements are still relevant to all of the teachers. Finally, once the regulations and rules are agreed upon by the educators, they will see an increase of students’ test scores, but it is also important to understand that the teachers will not be paid based on the exact score of their students, but rather the percentage of improvement from certain check points throughout the year. This is very critical to point out because one teacher might get the luck of the draw and have all advanced, and highly motivated students in their class, while another teacher might have a classroom full of students who do not care about school, or are struggling to keep up. The first teacher would not make more than the second teacher necessarily, it is all influenced by the percentage of improvement, not the grades
