Life is often hard to do on your own, especially as a young person. There are a few people that help us grow, which often can mean our parents, friends, or other family members, but to many people, a teacher or someone who works at a school can make the biggest impact. Mentors are people who are wise, and can help others in the situations they are presented with. In schools, there are often many students who struggle with learning, at home life, or personal things going on in their lives. Mentors are important especially to these students, because with just showing some care and motivating them to succeed can cause a huge impact that can even affect their entire lives. I knew it was what I wanted to do for a long time, so naturally I decided to choose education for my major. Surprisingly, I have been discouraged by a few of my past teachers who have told me that it isn’t worth it, or that my interest in it will go away quickly. As the end of my senior year rolled around, I had received many negative comments from some teachers and people in my community about my career choice, and was told many times that I should pursue something else. I was still sure it was what I wanted to do with my life, but the negative thoughts did distract me a little bit coming from teachers I respected. I thought back to all the other teachers that I had, and of course my English teacher came to mind frequently. She has been teaching for about twenty years, and she still has more passion and drive than some of our newer teachers have. She has affected so many young people 's lives throughout her years of teaching, and if I could be even half the teacher she is it would be worth it. She has inspired me to be a great teacher, despite what people may think and say about teachers, and I owe her so much for helping me go for my dream of
