NCAA schools provide mover 1.0 million fewer chances for women than they do for men. Women in NCAA associated schools only get 44% of the athletic opportunities. About two percent of high school athletes are awarded athletic scholarships. The NCAA allows for D1 (Division 1) colleges to give out a maximum of 20 scholarships per school, while D1 colleges can give out 85 football scholarships per school. Altogether, D1 colleges are allowed to offer up to 206.9 men’s athletic scholarships and only 173.1 women athletic scholarships. In a recent article by Kelly Wallace (CNN reporter), Wallace’s personal experience of women vs. men sports is a prime example of how women in NCAA aren’t considered as “important” than men are. Kelly Wallace stated in her article “The real March Madness: When will women's teams get equal buzz?” that when she went to visit Columbia University for a family trip, she was shocked to see that there were only a handful of people there to watch the women’s basketball team. Wallace stated “When we walked into the arena, my mouth practically dropped to the floor. Only a handful of people were there, quite a contrast from the nearly packed house for the men's team.” Wallace’s experience is a prime example of how women in the NCAA are mistreated and don’t get that much respect. For D2 (Division 2) sports, men are offered 10.8 full ride scholarships and women are offered only 9. Although, partially equivalent men still are offered more in scholarships than women. The objective that keeps women from receiving the same amount in this particular sport is danger and restrictions put on this sport specifically for women. Women have more restrictions than men, such as the violence and roughness put into the game. Women have just as much of a right to play as physical as men do. Also, the uniforms are very different in the comparison of men and women. Men are have to wear suit’s used for football, such as helmets and full body padding. Yet, the only similar thing women are only allowed to wear are kneepads and a helmet that isn’t even as stable or secure as the one men use. There is an equal amount of danger in the sport for women and men. Yet, the men are still offered more for an inaccurate reason and women have more restrictions than the men do , such as in equipment and rules.
