Education by the Numbers wrote an article about a California study found that kids who passed algebra 1 grade wise but didn't understand the concepts and were required to retake it, did worse on the second time through. "Among the higher performing students (C or better) who repeated, half saw their scores on the algebra state assessment fall by an entire performance level from “proficient” to “basic”." This shows that when information is retaught, it doesn't necessarily help the student. It in fact can hinder a student. Good thing there is an easy solution to solve this issue. To improve the math education, a different math-book series can be brought into the schools. I personally would suggest the use of the Singapore math series. By doing this the amount of math we learn will be greatly increased leaving us better prepared for college and the future. Being strong in math and science will help a lot, especially when you go to college.
