Over the last couple of decades, there has been a decline in the marriage rates and parenthood rates for young adults due to many factors. Starting a family can be very stressful to someone who is not prepared to do so, especially when the money is not there. We still see adults getting married at a young age and also having children, but it may not me the greatest idea at this point in their lives. In today’s world young adults face many challenges, it makes sense to get married and have children only when the money, time commitment, and maturity is there. Marriage is supposed to be a lifetime commitment and when one is at an age where they have not figured out what they want to do as a career it probably is not in their best interest …show more content…
There is nothing like having the responsibility of having a child. In many circumstances, having a child can make one’s life or a couple’s life a whole lot better. There is also nothing like the joy of having a child when things are going well. On the contrary, it can life damaging as well. When a young adult is not prepared to have a child, it can not only ruin their life but also the child’s. A child entail’s many things such as patience, financial stability, maturity, being with the right person to take care of the child, and much more. As Barbara Neitlich states, who is a psychotherapist, “If you wait, you can generally put more money aside for you baby fund.” In other words, if parents wait to have children until they are more financially stable, raising a child becomes a whole lot easier. A child relies on a parents or parents to provide to them and if the parents are not able to do that, it can significantly impact the child’s life in a harmful way. Chances are if young parents do not raise their child correctly, the child could face many challenges in life. Waiting to have children gives one a greater chance to be in a spot where they have an established job, more life experience, an opportunity to live your adulthood to the fullest, a greater knowledge of raising a child, and the ability to provide more to their child. For example, Beverly Flaxington who is a mother of three and had her first child at thirty- five could not be happier that she waited to have children. She gained the confidence and the maturity that was necessary to raise children and she states. Nerina Garcia-Arcement, who has a Ph. D, states "You might have more energy as a younger mom, but older moms have the benefit of more life experience and maturity.” The benefit of more life experience and maturity far outweighs the energy and little life experience.
