Why should the drinking age be lowered ? When people turn 18 most people will go off to college . When they are in college they are no longer being supervised by anyone . Many students in their first year of college begin to binge drink . College students binge drink before going out at night because they can’t legally get alcohol until they are 21, and lowering the drinking age may decrease the regularity on college campuses. Researchers who looked at states where the drinking age was lowered to 18, say that it may have just moved the problem down . The 1984 National Minimum Drinking Age Act, requires that States prohibit people under 21 years of age from purchasing alcoholic beverages as a condition of receiving State highway funds
