Father Son Relationship In The Kite Runner

A child is meant to feel jealous, when his parents shows more affection to someone else than him. In the novel “The Kite Runner”, the author Khaled Hosseini uses many characters to display the affection of a father son relationship and how they differ from character to character. The author talks about the characters of Amir, who is a coward, jealous, and the only son of Baba, and the character of Hassan, who is a selfless, courageous, strong and the only son of Baba’s servant. Furthermore, in the beginning of the novel, the author touches upon the topic of affection that Amir and Hassan get from Baba. To begin, for one of the birthday presents for Hassan, Baba had decided to hire a plastic surgeon and remove the hairlip that Hassan had. This is evident when during the conversation Baba said “Dr. Kumar is a plastic surgeon…” and Hassan responded with “He looked from Dr. Kumar to Baba to Ali. Through different incidents, the author shows how Baba praises, loves, appreciates and shows affection towards the son of his servant rather than his own.
