The word love defined by Merriam Webster is a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person. Let alone, there is a plethora of novels, stories, films that demonstrate an individual 's reaction or awareness of the situation when they are first introduced to uncharted territories that they are unfamiliar with due to lack of experience. However, even though there is a vast amount of meanings and different concepts the main point is, everyone will stumble upon love in one form or another. Yet, there are those that will be courageous and express their adoration to someone and there are those that are timid to display their perceptions toward the other person. Gazing up into the darkness I saw myself as a creature driven and derided by vanity; and my eyes burned with anguish and anger” (153). This scene displays a realization for the boy that Mangan’s sister won’t fulfill the expectations, and the lust for her is merely as an act for transition.
