Finding love is often a hard thing for most, it is especially difficult for our characters in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Although Shakespeare shows multiple relationships throughout the play, he forgot to mention that most are violent and toxic. Relationships are never supposed to be perfect, but they are not supposed to be toxic either. Each of our characters either has a lover they cannot have or a parent that doesn’t accept. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare’s play was considered it to be an erotic and violent piece of literature because of the relationships shown throughout, including Titania and Oberon, Helena and Demetrius, and Hermia and Lysander.
