The Coventry Meadows motto should be providing quality of life for all residents. Coventry Meadows is not an institution, it is a home. The staff truly cares for the residents and affords the quality of care they would want their loved ones to experience. The staff allowed the residents to make decisions about what to wear, when to eat, and what activities they wanted to participate in throughout the day. As Kristen stated, “they make a concerted effort, at the facility, to ensure the resident is given the opportunity to voice his/her wishes and continue to make decisions they are capable of making” (Kristen Hite, personal communication, February 19, 2016). The atmosphere was welcoming and individuals were seen as people not as patients.

They may need assistance with creating a will, life ending directives or family conflicts. Within a long-term care facility, the social worker is an integral part in all the elderly needs. Social workers are advocates for the elderly and work with families and other nursing home staff to provide quality care for the resident. A social worker meets with the resident and family members to assess the resident’s mental and emotional status to enable the professional team to create a care plan designed to meet the resident’s unique needs. There are several assessment tools used to ensure the facility is meeting and exceeding the care needed by the residents. The assessment comes from resident’s data that the nursing home routinely collects at specific intervals during their stay. These measures assess the resident’s physical, mental and clinical conditions and abilities. And ensures, the residents preferences are incorporated into the care provided. The success of the facility is based on the care of the residents and family members. Furthermore, the Indiana Department of Health does yearly surveys to ensure residents are receiving quality care. Residents and family members are encouraged to complete customer satisfaction surveys to help the facility ensure they are meeting the needs of their loved ones. Outside of a LTC facility, there are a number of social service agencies to assist with the needs of the elderly. One particular agency that helps promote independence, dignity and advocates for seniors is Aging & In-Home Services of Northeast Indiana. Furthermore, Homebound Meals provides food services for the elderly and Allen County Council on Aging assists the elderly find adult daycare
