I am interested in the NSLI-Y program because It would be amazing opportunity to learn a new language and culture, and help with a career later in life. I am open to trying and learning new things as well as meeting new people if I am selected. I would also be able to share my experience with others after I return home. Living outside the United States is good because it helps people understand other cultures. We learned about ethnocentrism in social studies and I think things would change for the better if people were exposed to different places and ideas.…

This begs the question: should the United States be allowed to repatriate all aliens back to their native soil? While illegal immigration and deportation has been a popular subject in recent politics, the next few reasons that will be presented will hopefully change or strengthen one 's view to allow immigrants who have resided in the United States for a minimum of five years or if they meet certain requirements to be allowed citizenship. I have been able to experience the culture of the countries I was visiting and able to observe the differences between theirs and mine. One thing caught my attention very quickly when I was visiting Ireland this past summer, and it was something I noticed in Italy too. That is that all of the people typically live the same. There was hardly any division of social class, something quite different from what goes on back in America. I live in the small and widely considered wealthy town of Haddonfield.…

“I don’t know” I can still distinctly recall my eleven-year-old self repeatedly saying to anyone who tried to talk to me. It was my first day of school in America and that was the only sentence I could put together in English. I was born in China and lived there my whole life until my mother decided to move to New York. I thought I was just visiting her for winter break, but she dropped me off at school just a week after my arrival. As my new classmates tried to talk to me, I can see their mouth moving but they might as well be speaking gibberish.…
