The Importance Of Living In Ohio

“What we don’t talk about enough is Ohio’s unique and remarkable quality of life. We are a state of cities, small towns and growing suburbs where life is affordable and destinations within reach. There is no better place to raise a family” -Bob Taft (former governor of Ohio). Ohio isn’t that “all country, nothing else” boring place that everyone thinks it is. Ohio is filled with many fun, unique things to do, that not all states have. Ohio is a great place to live. Although many people that don’t live in Ohio argue that Ohio has nothing to do; even if they have never visited Ohio, it’s not worth traveling to. Also, that the weather here is not very good; it’s too cold, the winter is too long, and it has major weather swings. They claim that …show more content…
I believe that most of these things that people say about Ohio are not true. Ohio has so many things to do including the Kalahari water park and Cedar Point which is named one of the greatest amusement parks in the world, holding 10 world records, and has 71 rides; the second most in the world. There is also Hocking Hills State Park, which was named one of the “top must-see destinations in the world” by Buzzfeed. We have Lake Erie which is Ohio’s “version of the Pacific” named one of top bass fishing lakes in the United States and is known for their beaches. We also have Ohio State football where it is known for having some of the best spirits in United States football stadiums. You can see this in the well-known Ohio football Stadium “The Shoe”. Lastly, we have The Toledo zoo which was named “best zoo in the United States”. The weather may have mood swings but we have all four seasons, unlike some other states which I like better than not having all four. When people say that the people that live in Ohio are all “hicks” and farmers that is not true, we got stuck with that stereotype but, we have a mix of diversity in Ohio. We do have big cities like Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Toledo, so we have more than just fields surrounding us. We don’t just have a mix of diversity in people; we have a mix in the geography considering we have rural and urban areas all over Ohio. Concerning crime rate, it is growing in a

One issuing facing urban communities that I feel passionately about is the school to prison pipeline. The reason this issue motivates me is that I do not see a lot of resources in our urban schools. One of the reasons is that adults give up on at risked youth in urban school districts. They do not have funding for guidance counselors. The main thing that sets up this pipeline is that the zero tolerance policy we use with our youth.…

According to McClay and McAllister, many risks may come to us as individuals and to society when we lose our connection to physical space, an example would be a childhood home. Risks have the ability to range from minor to major. To start I believe there are more cons to deinstitutionalization than pros; but I’m not saying institutionalization should be the solution. The cons, and this is what I’ve witnessed from the Frontline video: • When you have no support, no family, no friends, or medical help…you’ll get caught in this cycle.…

Ohio Ohio has over 50,000 individuals incarcerated in Ohio’s 32 state prison, with these prisons currently being 30% over their capacity. Realizing the need to remedy this situation, the General Assembly created the Criminal Justice Recodification Committee to reform the penalties for certain crimes and seek ways to reduce the state’s prison population. The year 2017 presents an opportunity for the Ohio legislature to implement these changes and seek a criminal justice system that values proportional punishment and respects human dignity. Oklahoma Currently half of the individuals who are incarcerated in the state of Oklahoma are nonviolent offenders. Did you know that 15.8% of people living in Ohio are recorded to be in poverty? There are many problems with poverty and inequality, and the solutions that the community is coming up with to solve these problems are not suitable. This is a hardship that is not only difficult for those living in need, but also for the community who has to watch them struggle through life. Although many people are affected by this and there are even more people who could help, many people just leave them be or walk by. This problem makes it harder and scarier for us and for them due to people who try to fake being in poverty and begging for free money.…
