Lifelong learning goes beyond what you learn and obtain from reading texts. Non-print texts can facilitate lifelong learning too, but it goes about it in a different way. Non-print texts can vary from music and art to something as simple as a pencil or a trashcan. With non-print text a new way of learning is revealed. It opens the door to creativity, in-depth thinking, and teaches you to be open-minded. When working with non-print texts you become more creative. A lot of the times there is no wrong answer when analyzing non-print texts because it is what you see and believe it is. In-depth thinking sounds boring but it’s already something that we do every day. When you listen to music the first thing that usually catches your attention is the beat but when you take the time to listen to the worlds you’re using in-depth thinking just in a simpler form. For example Lauren Hills song Doo Wop (That Thing) was played in a classroom and the students were asked to think about what the song is about, why it was saying what it was, and to think about the rhetorical situation. There are times where learning should be enjoyable. When learning is enjoyable students tend to value it more. It also makes use of more than one of the many senses that we use. When you read you are only seeing yet when you work with non-print texts you are also hearing and in some cases you can touch what it is that you’re learning about. Learning to become creative, have in-depth thinking, and be open minded can come in handy because in some situations all three may be needed. These three specific skills can better your career and they can also help you grasps a better understanding of the world.
