Reflection On After School Remediation

Over the course of the semester I have been very fortunate for all the opportunities that our administration has given me to grow as an educational leader. Throughout this semester I have assisted with scheduling, developed schedules for in school remediation for both students and teachers, led faculty meetings, been placed in charge of the afterschool remediation program, dealt with student issues ranging from bullying to skipping school to tobacco. All of these experiences have helped to prepare me for life after graduate school.

Here at Delphos St. John’s it is scheduling season, the confusion and uncertainty is roaming through the minds of the students. With the school only offering the bare minimum of classes, students do not broaden their horizon and try new things. It is sad that students are not interested in the classes they sign up for. They just pick something to fill the schedule, not because they are interested in learning that material. Students are at a disadvantage when they go to college for the reason being they may not have as much experience as others, the students are not able to take classes to help for their future careers, and students are not investing their time into learning because they have no interest for it.…

In the article “Increasing Access to College: An Education Mistake,” by Toby, Jackson, he proposes the importance of secondary education systems not educating up to their maximum potential. Lack of preparation leads to daily life struggles for young adults. Students must be properly prepared prior to their college admission for a smooth and successful educational transition. I always embraced the opportunity involve myself in co-curricular events as it provides me with an opportunity to engage with students outside of a classroom teacher, and involve myself with their lives outside of the usual teacher/student setting. By understanding a student outside of the classroom, I feel that I can better understand them and can create quality teaching and learning experiences from this. Reflection on my teaching is vital to my development. My Professional Development Plan has been invaluable to my ability to improve my teaching, and I have always received positive feedback from my supervisors. I have also taken the opportunity to mentor pre-service teachers to reflect on my teaching and learning.…

This semester has been a very difficult, stressful, and challenging for me . High School can not compare the amount of stress I had to face in this fall semester at Hostos Community College. However, it is like that with many other students because making a transition is frightening and many of us find a way to run away from it. Everything in life is a challenge and it is scary as well, but for those who want to study it all starts of with college. It took me more than words to actually realize the reality that I am actually living right at this very moment because, I was not expecting so many things to fall apart, but somehow becoming whole again.…
