To be so, I will have to have an open mind with a great awareness to understand my class and each pupil in it. I can maybe start by committing a few days in a week in getting to know each of my pupils, which could maybe be 2 to 3 pupils in a day. With this, I can get a grasp on their personalities, background and the environments they are immersed in their daily lives which can help me deal with each pupil without prejudices or labels. I believe that this will help me understand why a pupil behaves the way he or she does. In knowing the needs of each pupil, I then can adjust my curriculum to how the class should function with each of my pupils in it. In the class where I had my teaching practice, lessons were taught as a whole, but activities were done in groups and rotation. This gave a chance for everyone to learn a specific lesson through several methods and I would like to adapt this strategy to my future methodologies since in this way, it would be easy to see where each pupil and the class is strong or weak at.
Pupils have different personalities thus some may clash with the others. Another classroom management strategy that I would like to adapt from my teaching practice is the rotational seating arrangements. Monthly or when necessary, the seating plan of the pupils is changed, planned in such a way that can be beneficial to their learning and personality similarities/differences.
There are other several new learning I gained during my teaching practice experience. A teacher must invest on much time, thought and preparation in order to make a class curriculum work. It is not an easy task. One has to assess and evaluate, then collaborate with co-teachers in order to use effective ways of learning. What also seemed challenging was putting a line between being a friend and a teacher. It seemed hard to manage the difference in the beginning especially when you aren’t the class’ real
