It is then up to the student, after thinking about their own learning process (metacognition), to realise that in order to excel in the tasks, the student needs to build upon their knowledge, whether previous or new, through constructivism. This can be done individually, through personal experiences and knowledge or socially, thorough sharing experiences and negotiating with others (Locke, 1689; Livingston, 2003; Powell & Kalina, 2009).
Personally I have used a mixture of both by posting about my own experiences, knowledge and research, as well as reading the experiences of others, their knowledge and research, enabling me to reassess my own reasoning on the topics. With access to an array of information from a variety of sources at our disposal, it is essential that the information we consume, produce and share is credible in order to present reliable, evidence based work. Reflection Memo of Assignment 1 As I was revising my essay of Assignment 1, I started reviewing the whole process of how I constructed, wrote and revised. I really enjoy the process of deeply unearthing the great memories during my process of English learning, which was unforgettable. It is hard for me to forget how my first English teacher taught me: she was harsher than any teacher I met, but what she taught was invaluable. To be honest, the process of producing such an essay was arduous: as a non-native English writer, it was hard to select accurate words while describing the learning process.…

For my final portfolio, I chose to revise a shorter essay, “Potential Ramifications of a Trump Presidency,” and a longer essay, “Assignment 7: Finding Place Research Project.” I chose these two essays specifically because of their differences. The former is shorter, more informal, and includes more of my thoughts and opinions. The latter is a longer research paper, and thus is more formal and less biased as I attempted to give a brief history of gentrification and its impacts on East Liberty.…

“Teach children how they should live, and they will remember it all their life” (Proverbs 22:6, Good News Translation). The Proverbs writer expresses the audience, role, and purpose of the teacher. Although, many will agree that the methods employed by teachers have changed over time the framework for fulfilling the position is still the same. Their audience is the students which are assigned to them for direct and indirect instruction. These students are expecting to be challenged and engaged in the curriculum assigned to their grade level.…

One area that I believe I was successful in was in regards to competency 3.3, 3.8 and 3.12. While caring for a client who had been experiencing chest pain prior to me coming on shift, I ensured that I spoke with my nurse about the changes to expect and how to respond if the changes should arise during my care. I also made sure to take frequent vital signs and use subjective questioning to determine any changes in the status of my client. This allowed me to skillfully implement appropriate nursing care and prepare myself for a situation that could potentially change rather quickly. One area that I have been working on and would like to improve upon is developing mini DM assignments with each client that I take into my care.…

According to our textbook, Invitation to the Life Span, metacognition is a control process that essentially allows an individual to better understand what they know, how they learn, and how they can improve their ability to learn. When an individual considers how they may improve their ability to learn, they develop strategies. One situation was presented in a video on Metacognition, in which students were able to enhance their reading comprehension and memory. Strategies consisted of careful reading, review of the text, the production of questions in relation to the text, and the enhancement of their knowledge in vocabulary. William Pierce’s presentation, METACOGNITION: Study Strategies, Monitoring, and Motivation, addresses appropriate strategies for all students to increase metacognition.…

    1. Molnar, Boninger, & Fogarty (2011) discuss the increasing pressure for schools to partner with businesses in order to alleviate some of the budget shortcomings. Corporate involvement in education would be an easy way “for schools to pick up a few extra dollars” (Molnar, Boninger, & Fogarty, 2011, p. 2). However, Molnar et al. (2011) identify four different harms that are associated with commercialism in education: psychological, educational, health, and cost.…
