I interviewed two separate principals for my assignment. First I interviewed Ms. Christine Crow who was one of my principals last year for school but has moved to the Director of Secondary Curriculum. I also interviewed one of the current Academic Deans (basically one of the vice principals). It was very rewarding to get two different perspectives when it came to talking about the leadership standards and the 7 Habits. Throughout time with both of my colleagues, they stressed the importance of and explained how the standards were part of everyday life at PA Cyber. Ms. Crow constantly stressed that leadership is an ongoing learning process. She said there were three main ways a leader constantly grows. Crow talked about how standard 2 is important because, we as principals, have to be able to supervise our staff. One of the most important aspects of being a leader, is leading. Teaching our staff how to be better. That requires a strong rapport with staff. Trust amongst your colleagues is a must if you are to be a successful administrator. Ms. Crow said that having a strong, trusting relationship built with respect and compassion was the best way to foster collaboration. She stressed that fear of the administrator is not conducive to a strong learning environment and will hinder the growth of a school. The most difficult task in standard 2was …show more content…
Crow explained that this ability is developed over time. The fiscal side of things is not what teachers who become administration are used to dealing with. That being said, being able to make and keep a budget that is efficient is a must. Being able to budget things that support a high-quality instruction are also a must to allow the school to continually grow and achieve. Ms. Hammond explained to me that our school is a little different, with regard to safety. Since we do not have a typical school building, promoting the safety and welfare of the students is a little more challenging. In the typical brick and mortar school, teachers can physically see the students and monitor changes in behaviors or appearance. In the cyber realm, that task is still doable, but it is more difficult because we do not see the students in person. With the safety and welfare of the student being one of the top priorities of any school, she said it was imperative that administration keep track of the ever changing
