Crow talked about how standard 2 is important because, we as principals, have to be able to supervise our staff. One of the most important aspects of being a leader, is leading. Teaching our staff how to be better. That requires a strong rapport with staff. Trust amongst your colleagues is a must if you are to be a successful administrator. Ms. Crow said that having a strong, trusting relationship built with respect and compassion was the best way to foster collaboration. Crow explained that this ability is developed over time. The fiscal side of things is not what teachers who become administration are used to dealing with. That being said, being able to make and keep a budget that is efficient is a must. Being able to budget things that support a high-quality instruction are also a must to allow the school to continually grow and achieve. Ms. Hammond explained to me that our school is a little different, with regard to safety. Since we do not have a typical school building, promoting the safety and welfare of the students is a little more challenging. In the typical brick and mortar school, teachers can physically see the students and monitor changes in behaviors or appearance. In the cyber realm, that task is still doable, but it is more difficult because we do not see the students in person.
