“And we made from among them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient and [when] they were certain of Our signs. [Qur’an: Chapter 32, verse 24.]”
A good leader needs to be a humble leader and in order to reach success it is important that the leader needs to be unselfish, and empowers others to attain their objectives, which ultimately will help the leader grow as a person. Leaders need to learn the art of being selfless and not being selfish. Islam encourages people to develop the quality of humility as part of being a leader and to give back to the community instead of always taking; for example by giving charity to those who need it. Everybody needs help and nobody can accomplish everything by themselves, people need support

One component is “collaboration as it empowers each individual, engenders trust, and capitalizes on the diverse talents of the group members” (Astin & Astin). Another component in order to be a good effective group leader is to have the quality of being “empathetic/understanding of others which is the capacity to put yourself in the other person’s place which is critical for effective collaboration, building trust and resolving differences in viewpoint. It also requires the cultivation and use of what is probably our most neglected communication skill; active listening” (Astin & …show more content…
Since it is a private school and classes are smaller the teachers act much as parents, as they guide the students with a genuine concern. The staff, teachers, imams and volunteers all working at the center are very humbling and made me feel as if I was at home and at peace. This is important for our future selves we need to become more humble and our future leaders need to adapt to the characteristic of humility. When it comes towards leaders in this society there are many negative connotations that have been ascribed to them this may be due to the fact of the expectations of a leader and how our culture views a leader. We need a new quality for leaders in this day-in-age that is they need qualities of “neo-humility, this includes self-awareness, openness, valuing others’ opinions, willingness to learn, admitting mistakes and turning failures into lessons by using them (not covering them up) to educate oneself and others. It also includes sharing power, compensating for ones weaknesses, and establishing a culture of openness in which diversity, dissent and truth are encouraged based on mutual trust and respect. As we educate the next generation of leaders we have an obligation to introduce them to a concept of leadership that is not centered on strength and humility that is neo-humility” (Lawrence). I myself hope to adapt much of these traits mentioned

The contextual factors that I think affected these eight leaders were definitely affected by some, if not all, of the examples given above. These eight personalities/leaders all managed to shine or not shine in different ways, but no question, had say, Franklin Roosevelt or King David lived in the times that we live in today they might not have been able to utilize their strengths that they were able to in their time periods. When we look at these eight great leaders we see that they are all characterized with different leadership strengths, but we do see many shared contextual backgrounds. I believe that they all interact by way of historical era and the suffering they experienced in life which are uniting fronts and of great importance when…

It is important to remember that, having that title of ‘leader’, comes with its own set of responsibilities and challenges. We must do our due diligence in ensuring we do our best to create an environment, which promotes change. In reading Colin Powell’s 18 Lessons in Leadership, I learned that I can relate to many of his principles in one way or another. However, the three principles I chose were the principles that I believe I identified with the most. These principles, not only pertain to my military profession as a leader and mentor, but they also translate to my civilian profession as well.…

Upon reflecting on the word leadership, the most predominant description, which sticks out to me is the role a leader has to invite us to follow and to never give up. The keys to demonstrating and teaching others to follow is being an example to others can look up to—it is showing them how to be a leader. A leader is not one who is domineering, compulsive, demeaning towards others, or manipulative. A true leader is dependable, honorable, inclusive, patient, resilient, and multiple other relatable traits. A leader never gives up on the dream—the goal.…

It is essential to first take a look at the definition of leadership that Northouse (2013) has identified as practices is which one impacts and influences groups of people in order to accomplish a “common goal” (Sharp, 2015). In module one, Leadership Primer, Sharp explains that in order to be an effective leader, one has to be able to “reach out and engage other people as followers” (2015). This becomes a common goal amongst leaders; however, various approaches and theories base an individual’s leadership ability on different processes. The trait approach explains leadership as assigned and inborn characteristics and argues that all leaders share the same traits such as intelligence and extraversion (Northouse, 2013). On the other hand, the skills approach explains leadership in terms of emergent skills that anyone can develop in order to become an effective leader (Northouse, 2013).…

Social Work with Groups course is giving me more insight to the other courses that I have taken previously and some of those that I am currently rolled in such as Social Work with Families and Community Development. The first thing that caught my attention this time is that, theories of counseling are also applicable to group counseling. I learned about the theories in my social work practice class last year. This show how important the theories are to me as an emerging social worker.…
