Analysis Of Ender's Game By Orson Scott Card

From the very beginning, man has been ruled by man. In the series Ender's Game, the author Orson Scott Card betrays a form of leadership which may come across as foreign to most. Card depicts a futuristic world in which our world is under attack by an extraterrestrial threat. In order to be prepared for the next war, the government has recruited the assistance of brilliant children, who will lead each other in battle. In this story the main character, Ender was only six years old when he was accepted into battle school. Once he was there, he vigorously pushed himself so that one day he could lead his own army into battle. This betrayal of leadership is completely opposite to the medieval and barbaric king, depicted in the story the Lady …show more content…
Based off his character traits, the reader can infer that the author, Orson Scott Card believes a good leader would have similar attributes as Ender. Ender knew his responsibilities as a soder and as a leader, he knew how to push his men to their full potential. Ender may be a child but he did not think in the same as most children. Most children do not realize that people are imperfect and even when they try their best they still may fall short to there expectations. “If you try and lose then it isn't your fault. But if you don't try and we lose, then it's all your fault.”In this quotation Ender is trying to encourage his men to work to the best of the abilities so they do not let their team down because once you are part of a team; you can no longer think just for yourself. This team spirited way of thinking is a trait that all good leaders should have because if you do not know how to work with others how could you expect people to believe you could lead them. Ender may be a child but he did not think in the same as most children. Most children do not realize that people are imperfect and even when they try their best they still may fall short to there expectations, but Ender is not most children. Creating fear was one of the kings from the Lady or The Tigers intentions when he created his unusual form of punishment. The king turned his arena into his own play ground were he and the rest of his subjects could watch a criminal eaher mary a beautiful stranger, or get chewed alive by a bloodthirsty tiger; hence the title. All though this form of punishment is strange and inhuman, it is one hundred percent fair. For example, Stoken writes, “This was the king's semi- barbaric method of administering justice. Its perfect fairness is obvious. The criminal could not know out of which door would come the lady. He opened either he pleased, without having the slightest idea weather, in the next instant, he was to be devoured or married.” In this quotation, Stoken shows how all though his character is certainly barbaric, he is equally as fair, witch witch helps him be a better ruler. One similarity between Card's Ender’s game and Stockings Lady or the Tiger is that both leaders are extremely intelligent and know how to control others. One of the reasons the king's punishment was so effective was that he was not only able to strike fear into the heart of the criminal but also into the hearts every person watching. This would mean that less people would even think twice about committing a crime

Ender Wiggin: The Innocent Weapon In Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card, Ender is a very controversial character. Many people believe that he is a killer with a violent spirit, and that he meant to commit genocide, while I disagree. I believe that Ender has an innocent spirit, a friendly conscience, and was repeatedly used as a weapon. He was provoked when fighting Stilson and Bonzo, was constantly controlled by the adults, and did not have the intent of genocide on the buggers.…

Peter is one of the greatest influences in Ender's life, even if Ender refuses to admit it. Because Peter was so cruel and violent towards Ender, often physically abusing him(page 12). Due to this End began to imitate Peter's actions when he played the war games ruthlessly. This led to Ender being a remarkable commander. Through the violent ‘games’ Peter coerced Ender to play, Ender was almost forced to develop a prodigious skill to strategize battles.…

The destruction of these cities was deemed necessary by those in power to reduce their own casualties and to save their own people. The inhabitants of those cities died for what may seem to be selfish reasons from their point of view, killed to protect those they have never met. From the start, as soon as Ender boarded the ship headed towards outer space, the situations he was put in were rigged. His entire training was rigged; the situation was manipulated along with Ender. This is one of the most notorious ways the school brought out the side of Ender they liked, they set the situation and the people in the situations against him. They always tried to push Ender’s limits by assuring the odds against him.…

In Ender’s Game, children are portrayed as calculating, ruthless, and violent. Many have complained to the author, Orson Scott Card, that this is unrealistic. However, I disagree. While it is uncharacteristic of children to behave this way in real life, the children in Ender’s game are a product of their environment. Examples of this come not only from the Battle School, but also from everyday life on Earth and the attitudes of the adults.…
