In this running record about M, I really tried to focus in on the way he was talking to those around him while doing what he was doing. Through me watching M interact with everyone around him, and I saw how at times M can become frustrated with what is going on. He lets out these frustrations by throwing or hitting things, instead of just using his words to ask for what he wants. Expect for when M asked the teacher “What am I suppose to do?” when talking about the animal sewing activity. The teacher then proceded to show M how to do this activity, and then M went on to doing what she showed him. This goes along with the idea of “Increasing capacity to use language in thought is a key development of the preschool period and enables children …show more content…
I have realized that children all learn these skills at different levels through their growth in and out of school. I have seen first hand children using their communication skills within a classroom, to an extent that I never knew was possible. These preschoolers communicate with each other at a level that I never thought children of their age could communicate at. They talk to each other in that same way that adults communicate to each other on a daily basis, which still blows my mind to this day. I do not know why I am so shocked as to how well children can communicate their words and feelings to everyone around …show more content…

Adults can effectively support and extend the speech, language and communication development of children during early years by making learning fun and enjoyable and using games that require a lot of repetition and turn taking. I learned a lot from this OIR that will affect my future teaching career hopefully in a better approach. I learned that some children develop slower than others and some develop quicker. All children achieve milestones at different times in their lives. Seeing that some children need a little extra help (guidance in independence and taking responsibility) and some children don’t, show that when I’m a teacher, I’m going to have to accommodate to these children’s needs as much as possible. I also learned that some children need more time than others to develop.…

By looking at how children interact or higher level thinking he looked at how a childs cognitive development can be enriched with adult intervention. This influenced current practice as we spend time observing children and ensuring that we enrich learning by asking questions that extend thinking and enrich their learning experiences. Vygotsky showed that adults can draw attention to concepts which help the child to develop further but also recognised the importance of the quality of the interaction. We pay close attention to what we say to children and how we come across looking at our tone of voice, body language as well as giving enough time for the child to process information and respond. Vygotsky influences current practice as we also…

I have found myself teaching them more directly then I did when they were still in preschool, mainly reading, spelling and mathematics. This particular excerpt will be very helpful in the upcoming months of school as I have a better understanding on how to support them in figuring out the words they are reading or the math problems they encounter instead of just giving them the answers more directly. I will implement more open ended questions to try and assist them in figuring out the answers on their own. Finally, I will allow them to practice areas they have already mastered, for example, phonograms they already know, in an effort to ensure they have mastered the subject thoroughly before moving on to more difficult…

No matter where you go or went to school, you always have some type of English class that forces you to write papers. These papers usually has to be a certain way or over a certain topic. To me that was a pretty big problem for me because I could do free writing easy, but when you tell me to write about something that I don 't have any interest in and I have to follow your “rules”, then I will just try to blow it off. I have always hated the way Professors and the world had this “image” of their version of a “perfect” essay. I always messed up on the rules like where to put my commas or semicolons, that to me is the hardest part to not have a run- on sentence.…

In my past semester of English 1010, I was able to demonstrate my abilities to be an effective writer and enhance my writing skills through guiding essay projects. I do believe my abilities were improved in topics including: finding the author’s purpose, explaining ideas, revising, editing, proofreading, organizing the structure of my paper, and etc.…

We have known race riots, draft riots, labor violence, secession, anti-war protests, and a whiskey rebellion, but one kind of trouble we've never had: a language riot. Language riot? It sounds like a joke. The very idea of language as a political force-as something that might threaten to split a country wide apart-is alien to our way of thinking and to our cultural traditions. This may be changing.…
