How we respond to such changes and the negative impacts that they have on the project is what separates success from failure. Any of the two options being considered by my CEO will most likely affect the project management plan (PMBOK, 2013, p 284). The main factor to consider before making the decision to outsource or adding overtime is the specific issue that needs to be addressed with either of the two approaches. For example, if the issue is that a specific technology or expertise held by an outside company is needed to speed up the project then I will advise for outsourcing (Larson & Gray, 2011, p 309). If the problem can be fixed without specialized assistance it will be beneficial to consider the latter. However, there are some tasks that could be outsourced within my company that will not create a security issue if done correctly. While outsourcing is not entirely impossible, for my company the best thing to do is scheduling overtime. Overtime is a fundamental element of the crashing technique to shorten the project duration. Widely preferred over adding additional new employees to a project due to the disruptions that new and unfamiliar staff can create (Larson & Gray, 2011, p 311). An important problem to consider when approving overtime is that productivity is not maintained through the day equally as workers move from 8 to 12 hour work days.
