Decent Essays
Korbyn was walking around the classroom as usual, despite of the rules during the music lessons. He was given two (2) strikes already by not following directions and not participating. He got up from his chair, walked around and stopped right behind me. Then he shaped his hand cylindrical, and started moving it back and forth in front of his pants. I thought it would be appropriate to send Korbyn to the office, so I buzzed the office to ask the security guard to come to Ms. Whelan's

Justice Roberts (2007) explained that the United States Supreme Court granted judicial review based “on two questions: whether Frederick had a First Amendment right to wield his banner, and, if so, whether that right was so clearly established that the principal may be held liable for damages” (p. 5). The first question against Frederick was resolved by the Court; however, the Court had “no occasion to reach the second” (Roberts, 2007, p. 5). Due to the event occurring during the normal operating hours of the school and being authorized by Principal Morse as a class trip or social function, school rules apply. Justice Roberts (2007) explained that the “school district’s rules expressly provide that pupils in approved social events and class trips are subject to district rules for student conduct” (p. 6).…

As a diverse student with a variety of interests and passions, the liberal arts program and energetic community atmosphere at Bates draws me to its campus. I enjoy learning many different subjects and discovering the connections between them all. Recently, my Physics teacher and my Calculus teacher collaborated on a problem the class was assigned and I was able to see how both teachers concurred the same issue from different angles. As a student involved in many school sponsored service events, such as Wreaths Across America and National Honors Society, I am inspired to see that Bates also encourages students to be a part of the Lewiston community. I would be interested getting involved with the Root Cellar volunteers in the community.…

    Quadre Short Story

“Quadre” I’ve always loved children, and I am under the impression that the feeling is mutual, especially in my work in the church nursery, mentor programs, summer camps, and a volunteer trip to an African orphanage this summer. I like kids, particularly younger ones, because they are straight-forward; unconcerned with things like status, appearance, and reality; and have the best senses of humor by accident. Quadre, a young boy I met while volunteering at a school, was no exception to those qualities, and he was especially unique for a few more. He had a knack for getting into trouble and was clearly the class clown, but unlike his peers, Quadre did not like me. Despite my best efforts to show him love and befriend him, he wasn’t having it.…
