Kid-Watching Assignment: Kindergarten

Kid-Watching Assignment Kindergarten plays a significant role in the development of a child as in these early years of their life, children are learning the basic structures of human life. Children come into the kindergarten classrooms with different levels of skills learned from their parents at home. Upon starting school, especially in literacy, students are exposed to the English language in a safe environment at school. Throughout the school year, students continue to use and develop language to communicate thought and feelings to their family members and peers inside and outside the classroom. In the observations in a JK/SK classroom in an East York public school, it showed that children were constantly exposed to language and literacy without specified "teaching blocks". Children were using language during independent work and art time. As well, observations included the understanding of student attitudes towards literacy, and how students developed many literacy skills in the classroom. The instructions involved the students obtaining name tags and organizing them onto a board. The class was learning the letter "L" at the time, and in the activity, students needed to identify if they had the letter "L" in their name. The significance of this activity was that students were using decoding strategies to identify the different letters in their name. After organizing the names based on letter, the teacher then asked a student to take objects out of a bag. Students would then repeat what the teacher would say about the objects. All of the objects pulled out of the bag started with the letter "L". This enforces the learning of the letter "L" in this
