Keep a Happy Family by Cooking a Meal.

In my country, most women are aware of the importance of cooking a meal that is to keep a happy family. My mother is a typical housewife, she always wants to teach me by her ways to become a perfect woman who is not only good at social work but also at housework, especially preparing a delicious and healthy meal for a family. She said, “The family will be broken up if it is not raised by the woman’s hands.” Actually, my mom is a person that has a big impact on my lifestyle. She makes me realize cooking is a great activity that helps each member in a family healthier, happier and more connected.

Traditionally, my mom requires all members have to eat together a meal at least once a week, usually on the weekend. Eating a meal together is a significant thing to help people connect each other in this modern society. I’m so proud that we still keep the tradition voluntarily. Throughout the meal, we share our stories about our livings, and together discuss daily problems that happen to our family. That is also the time that the elders are instructing their experiences to young generations like me and help us avoid living wrong ways. I read a research article, it shows regularly eating at home as a family is linked to healthier and happier kids, and teens who are less likely to use alcohol, drugs, or cigarettes. As a woman, my mom seems to realize these important things from a meal, so she continues cooking delicious meals for the meeting without any …show more content…

Available with these ingredients, my mom just spends a little time to cook a meal for my family. She cooks a copious meal equal to the amount of time I watch a movie. My mom said, “Cooking is so easy and quick with her because she knows how to prepare for it.” I reply her, “It is impossible to me.” She advises me, “It can be if you do it now, until you are at my age, you may be better than me.” I think she’s right, cooking is her job, and she is proficient in it.
Cooking a meal regularly for the family is kind of happiness of housewives. They do it as a profession, some do it for fun, and some do it because they have to. My mom and I had a heart to heart talk that she doesn’t see cooking for my family as an obligation. She feels happy when preparing meals for my family. From my mother, I feel cooking for my loved ones is the most meaningful work to bring the happiness, mental and physical health and connection of each family member. In the story, “Cooking Lessons” by Rosario Castellanos, a Mexican poet and author, known for her articulate writings about gender oppression which influenced feminist theories, uses food images to reflect gender roles. Castellanos also uses an interior monologue to represent the fact that women have no voice and are expected to just do and know certain things as opposed to men, for example, cooking. Eloquently written, Castellanos illustrates the inner thoughts of an educated and independent woman who has to forget all she knows and enter a unknowing world where she must depend on a man and take on the traditional role of a woman; a housewife. The nameless narrator stands starring hopelessly into a kitchen not knowing what to do or where…

America can be called the melting pot but can also be called the most obese country on the planet. In recent years there has been a rise in obesity, especially in youth. The reason might be because children don’t do much physical activity, like playing outside. Children also eat more fast-food due to the fact that most parents work and don’t have time to make healthy meals at home. From health conditions to plenty of temptations out there, it is difficult for a person to stay thin and meet the expectations of society.…

My father has been in the military for 30 years. His career has taken him and my family, to every corner of the world. The Air Force is a demanding career path to choose; often the spouse is left with the full weight of the chores to be done on the home front. During the course of my upbringing these duties were, in part, delegated to my sisters and I. While we never experienced “a life of almost tropical idleness’ (CITATION) like the children of Jane Smiley, we became effective and efficient members of our house hold. We learned to respect our house and our family.…

Many families are now keeping logs of what they are eating, or even “prepping”, (cooking their meals for the week on Sunday or Monday nights, and portioning them out to be nutritionally beneficial) their dinners and meals. In addition, families can focus on refraining from serving meals “family style”, (in large portions, to be passed around at the dinner table). Families are also controlling the “snacking habits” of their children. They are not allowing their children to eat anywhere other than a designated area, and are not giving children snacks as a way of rewarding them (Scaffa, 2010,…

Many children and adults spend less time preparing food and more time eating processed food or fast food (Ng, Popkin, and Smith, 2013). If families and individuals learned how to prepare food, then they are more likely to use the skill. My mother taught me how to prepare my lunches before the week started. This has helped me eat healthy and save money by not eating fast food during college. Creating nutrition and cooking classes would also align with Health People 2020’s goals because they are targeting teaching the community healthy behaviors and habits, along with improving the behaviors in all groups of the…

Myself, leading the busy life of a full time college student miss the times I had cooking with my family and no surprise, I watch cooking shows in my spare time. Everyone wishes they could come together every night for a home cooked meal like the ones presented on these shows. What sane person doesn’t? “So cooking matters - a lot, which, when you think about it, should come as no surprise”, writes Michael Pollan, Author of “The Cooking Animal” (Pollan 106). Its not that we enjoy slaving in a hot kitchen for two or more hours, its the simple fact that shared meals provide a catalyst for families to come together, relax and connect with one another, which makes all of the hard work worth it.…

It was not until I started college that I began to realize the negative effects that it had on my health as well as trying new ways to continue eating my traditional dishes without it being so unhealthy. Reflecting back on the changes in relationship I have had with food throughout the years, I have become more understanding on the ideas and findings discussed in the course readings. From a young age, my parents have always enforced the idea of eating healthy constantly badgering me to eat my vegetables or have a piece of protein with my meals. Although I might not have understood why their reprimanding was important, over the course of these last few weeks in biology I have come to realize that having a sound diet in many ways encompasses what it means to be healthy and live life to its fullest. By actively moderating, recording, and learning about what I have been eating I can now clearly understand that my parents were right to encourage healthy eating in my home. My parent, specifically my mother, was always the one who cooked and influenced my healthy eating at a young age. When looking at my food logs for this…
