teens between the years 1990 and 2010 are being discussed and there is a dramatic increase by two hundred and thirty percent. With further analysis I discovered that among these teens, thirty five percent of the teens charged as adults were likely to return to prison vs those whom were sentenced as juveniles. That means that among the teens who were sentenced as adults, sixty five percent of them (more than half) never went back to jail because they learned from their lesson. Although these number may be approximations and based on the matter that they were even let out, a vast majority who serve life would have been safe for society. That is what John Schwate explains in his article “Rethinking Juvenile justice; after years of moving in the opposite direction many states are now making it harder to try teen offenders in the adult justice system.” Although as a whole Schwate explains that people tend to believe this punishment if not just, he too explains why this was even a consideration in the first place. After continues years of debating, the courts found that there are many aspects that are applied to the decision of when it is fine to let a teen serve life. The main reason the belief of this punishment was even considered was because the courts believed that this would prevent future teen crimes. If they show dogma into teen crimes and murders, teens would know that they won’t just get away with anything and that they will be punished. The purpose of life sentenced was aiming to warn other teens that life is not a joke and they should be accountable for their own actions. The intentions behind teens is not to present a punishment but rather send a message. Even though this is the case, I still believe that teens should deserve a chance to show that they are rehabilitated because everyone deserves a second
