The ultimate goal in my career journey is to start my own firm that works with clients in the entertainment and beauty industry. Stephen Huvane founded one of the largest and powerful PR firms in the entertainment industry, Slate PR. Slate PR is known for their representation of actors, directors, producers, and films. Huvane started working for BWR Public Relations, which was where he was able to start off his career in publicity. Similarly to Huvane, my goal is to land an internship with Viacom or any entertainment firm before graduating. Once I finish my degree, I plan on moving to Los Angeles, to further my networking connections. Los Angeles will give me the opportunity of meeting people in the entertainment industry. The organization of the hierarchy in a public relations firms various in ways depending on the type of firm, culture and perception of management. Large organizations tend to include public relations in management decisions and make the department a key component of their company. Conversely, public relations usually have no in-put into management decisions in small- scale organizations. The hierarchy of positions in a firm can also vary depending the size and demand of public relation practitioners. Generally, the job levels in public relations can be divided into five classifications, which are entry-level technician, supervisor, manager, director and executive. Entry-level technician general responsibilities would be to use their craft skills to distribute information, persuade, and gather data or request feedback. Typical titles in public relations that would behold this title would be a public relation writer, public relation mentor, social media specialist, public relation associate and public relation trainee. The twelve individuals selected to contribute and discuss the MTA fare hike are basic on the impact, knowledge of the situation, media influence they have among the Harlem community and City College scholars. Padmore John is the chair of Community Board 9 in Manhattan, which would be an essential person to have because of the outreach he has on the West Harlem community. Paul Jackson is the publisher of the Harlem Times newspaper. Jackson’s position as a publisher of a newspaper that has a targeted audience of Harlem residents can be influential and bring awareness of the issue to the community. Rakim Mayers known by his stage name ASAP Rocky is a rapper from Harlem. Having ASAP Rocky be a part of this collaboration will attract a large population of young adolescents that are not aware of the issue. Christopher Boylan was the Deputy Executive Director for State of NY Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Boylan twenty-year career and insight on the issues with the MTA is reputable. The Dominican Student Association at City College also has been largely influential group on campus that would be perfect to have at the conference. Kevin R. Foster is the chairman of the economics department at City College. With his contribution of highlighting the damages economically to college students is critical.
