Islam is one of the fastest growing religions and extends over many different regions. The Arabic term “Islam” means submission to Allah, which is the Arabic word for God. This is the basis of the Islamic faith, and it drives Muslims to strive to live a life that is in complete submission to Allah. Islam was founded by Muhammad (AD 570-632) in modern day Saudi Arabia. Muslims believe that Muhammad received a message from the angel Gabriel and was commanded to write down the words of Allah. These words are recorded in the Qur’an. Many Muslims recite the Qur’an in Arabic for their daily prayers and strive to live by it. Even if Muslims do not understand Arabic, they still recite the Qur’an in Arabic because it is viewed as the language of God. …show more content…
These are the fundamental beliefs of Islam that all Muslims follow in order to enter into paradise. The Shahada is the confession that all Muslims have to recite. It states, “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the prophet/messenger of Allah.” The Salat is the name for the five daily prayers Muslims pray while facing towards Mecca. The Zakat requires Muslims to give alms (money) to those in need, and it is about 2.5% of their income. The Saum takes place during the month of Ramadan, which is when Muslims are required to fast from sunrise to sunset. Unfortunately, many Christians in the United States have little or no experience with Muslims, and there is a fear of the unknown. Many Muslims are very warm and hospitable, and it is important for Christians to invite Muslims into their homes and lives. Hospitality creates an environment of love and trust where the gospel can be proclaimed in love. It shows that the Christian’s motives are genuine and out of love for him or her.
