There is risk of developing a sexually transmitted infections if you have a new partner and some of these infections are potentially harmful to your baby.
Early pregnancy in the first trimester (4 - 13 weeks)
Desire and sexual intimacy
Sexual desire fluctuates through out pregnancy.
Factors that can interfere with desire and intimacy include:
Fatigue

Pregnancy is a progressive period of adjustment both personally and in your relationships (Jordan, Marfell, Engstrom, & Farley,2014).
Breasts and Nipples
There are no contra indications to any caressing of breasts or nipples in pregnancy (unless your physician or midwife has specially advised against it). However, your breasts and nipples may be more sensitive and there may be some colostrum.
Sex in the third trimester (29 - 40 weeks)
In the third trimester, your baby seems to get into the middle of everything and this includes sex. Again, there are no contra indications to continuing sexual intercourse however, the size of your belly and the weight of the baby influences what you can and cannot do.
You may find that you are unable lie on back for any length of time. Often this causes a feeling of light headedness and nausea as the weight of the baby compresses the vessels that return blood to the heart, as such you may need to find alternate positions for intercourse.
