The person that I interviewed had a job title by the name of Rawlings director of pro baseball services. That job is working directly with players and executives of teams directly in Major League Baseball. As a part of the job, during the season you are required to be at as many games as possible and in the offseason, there is never a day that goes by where you will not be in contact with multiple players or executives of teams. Another aspect of the job is to recruit baseball players to sign contracts with Rawlings for usage of their equipment. The job also entails selling Rawlings equipment to baseball players to use in the season. Some topics that relate to this job are as following. Recently, Rawlings held their annual Gold Glove …show more content…
I learned the trend of the baseball industry and not just the baseball industry but the sports industry as a whole. I have learned that there is for sure no typical or easy day in the sports industry and that you have to be in communication almost all the time. This shows me that the sports industry is very much so a people industry and your people communication skills help you tremendously. The passion and drive needed to work in the sports industry is an incredible amount. I also have learned that there is not one clear cut way or path to get to the end goal of a specific job that you want to obtain. Everything that I heard from this interview I can relate back to a guest speaker or something I heard in class. This showed me that everything in the sports industry is connected and that all the sports can be intertwined from the business aspect of it. I think that is really interesting that everyone that I have heard speak that has worked in the sports industry all have very similar points that they push, such as to network, work hard and that there is no typical day which means you will need a lot of passion to work in the industry. This project has taught me a lot and was really eye opening but I am ready and even more excited than I was before to continue my path into the sports

It impacted the way that I viewed sports franchises greatly. My project in my eyes was a success not because of how my virtual team did, but because of how my point of view changed. At first it was just two teams going up and down a court, field, or rink trying to score on each other to win, now it is so much more complex and detailed than before. At first I only expected to playing madden in my basement. I never thought that my project would include an interview with Greg Kirstein the Senior Vice President of the Blue Jackets front office.…

People coming from a different planet would think every day things we do in life are weird. What we have adapted to and think are normal look very weird to others who haven’t seen people doing things like this. Such as someone who has never shaved before would think that is very odd to shave your beard. Or someone who has never seen a drive threw would think it’s weird to have people have food handed out the window. As we think other cultures are weird we have to look at the fact that our culture is weird to others People that have never seen basketball would thing it is a bunch of people running around with a ball.…

The baseball field is where I spend most of my weekends and evenings with my family “cheering” on my brother. In reality, when I get there, I have parents waiting for me to watch over the younger siblings of the baseball players playing that day. One of my favorite memories from the field was when I handed the kid I was watching a package of gummy worms, and he looked up at me with his smile hidden under his chubby cheeks. When I was younger, I would always look up to teenagers because I felt that they had some sort of coolness since they were the “big kid.…

This is definitely a change from the norm but at the same time it is exciting as well. It gives me the opportunity to use or observe some of the material that I have learned so far in my classes at Johnson & Wales in a real scenario. This internship allows me as well to gain much needed additional experience in the sports and athletics industry and will give me a more holistic view of the athletic program. It will allow me to see many different roles and see from various projects what parts of athletics I like or dislike since I am overall still open for the future to a variety of roles in the sports industry…
