Professional Interview Reflection

On Thursday, October 8th, I attended the seminar on how to successfully interview at Career Services. The seminar was done by Brian Creed. During the presentation I learned many tips on what to do during a professional interview. Some things I already knew but there was a lot of information that was new to me. I believe it is very important to know how to make your interview as successful as possible; especially since soon I will be apart of many interviews as I join the work force.
The seminar had tree main points. Those were: the pre-interview, what to expect during the interview, and the post-interview. The section on the pre-interview was about the callback to set up the interview. Creed’s main messages were that the phone call should be

I’ve only done two; one for my current restaurant job and the interview for LEADs. Both were very nerve racking and I knew very little about what to expect. Luckily, both ended up going well enough, but I could have really used the tips provided by Creed. Especially during my first ever interview with the store I am currently working at; I felt very unprepared for the questions that were asked and how to even do something as simple as give an example. I do remember that for my job interview, the manager I was interviewing with did ask very similar questions to what Creed said would be asked.
If I could redo those interviews knowing what I learned from this seminar, I feel as if I’d do much better and feel more confident on what I was doing and saying. I would be able to answer the questions in a more concise way and get my point across better. Just knowing what to expect would have helped my past interviews go smoother. Definitely now I will be using all of his tips in my future interviews.
Overall, I think attending the seminar was very beneficial to me now and in the future. This assignment of attending a professional seminar and reflecting on it, I believe, was very important and a great opportunity to learn more about how to interview and about Career Services in general. Without the assignment I don’t think I would have attended something like this and I would have really missed

For the informational interview I contacted a family friend Rebecca Gray Detling who is an executive sales manager with ICH Global LLC. I first just started off asking Rebecca on what she majored in college, how it prepared her for her job, what courses were the most valuable, and what class she wished she would have taken while in school. While in college Rebecca majored in physical therapy and had a minor in finance because she knew she wanted a future in the business field while helping out people in the medical field. Once out of college though she said that the most valuable class she took was a little of every class because with a career in the medical field, sales, and finance not one class is better than the other but a little of each class was extremely valuable.…

Proximately 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, Colored Americans in Southern states still had a blunt unequal world of segregation and sundry forms of oppression, including race-influenced brutality. “Jim Crow” laws at the local and verbalize levels barred them from schools and restrooms, from theaters and certain transportation, from courts and constitutional rights. In 1954, the high court established the “separate but equal” law that composed the substratum for state-approved segregation, bringing international and national awareness to African Americans’ struggle. In the unstable decade and a moiety that followed, civil rights activists used peaceful protests and civil incompliance to establish change, and the federal regime made legislative improvement with actions such as the 1965 Voting Rights and the 1968 Civil Rights Act.…

Getting practice using the techniques we have been learning in real time, with a real person, made the content more concrete. While my performance produced mixed results, the practice was a good start to becoming an expert using the technique.
