Personal Narrative: My Interview With A Child With Employee

For this assignment I decided to interview a child who I see regularly when my co- worker brings her into our workplace. For privacy reasons, I asked her to come up with a name I could call her in this assignment and she picked out the name “Amanda.” Amanda is in the first grade and is 7 years old. During her last parent teacher conference, the teacher had absolutely nothing bad to say about Amanda’s performance. She excels in all aspects of school and is at the top of her class. Therefore, she quite often finds school less challenging than other students in her classroom, and is frequently bored during school activities and learning. She breezes through the at home assignments and normally competes a whole weeks worth of material in one night! The teacher she has this year suggested that she be moved up to second grade in order to learn some more challenging material but her mom declined since it would be in the middle of the school year. At first I thought this was a little over her cognitive ability, but I was presently surprised that it actually was not! I showed her two glasses of water, which had the same amount of water in them. I then poured one of those cups of water into a different bowl that made the amount of water look smaller. After, I asked her which she class she would prefer to drink. She looked at both for a minute and then expressed to me “I don’t care. They both have the same amount of water. I watched you pour it into the other cup!” I was pleasantly surprised because she caught on to my “trick” that I tried to play with her! However, if I could redo this experiment, I would remove her from the room and proceed to ask her the same question. I have a feeling that will still not make a difference because this little girl is exceptionally
