We now live in a networked world, a world where the barriers of national and international boundaries have become less relevant and the world, figuratively, a smaller place. In such a world we must prepare our children to deal with the constant changes. To build citizens for the 21st century we have to now look at an education that works to help students to learn to see ‘through the hearts, minds and eyes of others.’ How do we prepare students for a world where familiar boundaries and assumptions are being replaced by new realities? As Tennyson said, ‘The old order changeth yielding place to new’ and as educators we need to provide experiences for our students that have international and global significance.

Cultural awareness and sensitivity to differences is essential to an international education. It equips students with the skills to learn and acquire knowledge, individually or collaboratively, and to apply these skills and knowledge accordingly across a broad range of areas.
