We have been living in a world of individualization, a world where we can be whoever we want to be. But in my lifetime, that could change because of how many individuals are arguing about segregation and how we all need to observe each other as equals. However there’s a major downside to this and it can be seen in the book, Anthem. The world in Anthem is controlled through a collectivist dictatorship and this forces everyone to be equal. But what if one of those men that are trapped in the society want to be different and create something new? This man's name is Equality 7-2521 and like all men and women, he was born in the city that he spends most of his young life in. But he was caught after he left his hole and was tortured to tell where his hiding spot was but he didn’t tell even through lashes and pain. A month passes and Equality finally break out of his imprisonment to give his light as a gift to the Council so they can use it to help improve the way of life. But when he presented it, it was thought to be evil and was rejected. It was then decided that they were going to destroy the light, even though Equality disapproved of the idea. So he decides to run away from the City and into the Uncharted Forest, where none of the Council members would try to follow him and destroy his invention. It was him feeling like he was special, that he was different and had a purpose. It was him having these strange but interesting feelings that made him feel human. It was because of The Golden One and how she made him gleeful. There are a handful of other reasons, but there is a pattern to all of them. That pattern is that they all are forbidden to do in the society that Equality grew up in. Everything that he did that helped him see the truth and find the ability of individuality was forbidden and against the countless rules that kept the people of the city under the Councils control.
