1. “When you try to control the other person, you might insist on details, shut down communication, or simply say, “No way I’m going to do that.” Instead, say, “We can solve this problem. I’ll listen to you; I ask you to listen to me.” “Let’s generate several possibilities.” (pg. 25)
2. I currently try to problem solve with people but when I try to help it comes out in more of a controlling way. An example is with my best friend Megan she has a friend that is a really bad influence and Megan is trying to get her out of her life. But she keeps letting her in and then she comes to me and tells me that she isn’t happy with that friends. My reaction is to tell her to dump that friend and never speak to her again instead of trying to help her through

“We are connected human beings who must balance out need for personal autonomy with our need for interdependence. We can no longer live by the myth that somewhere out there is a place where we can be completely independent and do what we wish.” (pg. 35)
2. I want to be independent in my life because I feel that I’m a grown up and should be able to live on my own. But I’m finding that I can’t afford to live by myself right after college because I don’t have a steady job to rely on. I have much resentment towards my parents because I don’t want to move home after I graduate I want to go live on my own with my best friend. But thinking about the situation I would be in its not very smart to move in with a friend because I don’t have to job to support it. The result is that I’m resenting my parents for not being able to move into my own place.
3. I would start with think about all the options that I have after I graduate, and from there looking at how each option would better benefit me. After thinking about those options I see that moving out on my own wouldn’t be the smartest idea because I might have the money now but down the road I won’t have enough or anything saved up. I need my parents because they can help me save money so that I will eventually be able to live with a friend. But also thinking about how in today’s society it’s hard to live somewhere by yourself, you almost all the time need someone to live with to cut cost. As people we aren’t very independent as we think because we need others to help us make everything

Life with Education As I sit and reflect on “First Job” by Iliana Roman and how her life could possibly compare to mine, the term “apples and oranges” come to mind. Even while I admire Iliana Roman’s “never give up” attitude and the fact she proved that a woman does not need a man to be successful in life, I don’t believe I’m going to find a multitude of points to hit upon. While the author’s first job of many lasted a period of years, my one and only job lasted a little over a year. It started at the beginning of my senior year and lasted through graduation.…

It is often questioned what level of independence one should take in relation to society, government, and the influence or aid of others. Achieving a level of independence, the ability to stand on your own, is a key area of accepting responsibility for oneself. Individuals should have total free will if they are capable of taking care of themselves. Independence is for the ones who can depend on themselves to get by, but the actions of individuals should only be limited to prevent harm to others. In other words, a person should be able to do whatever they want as long as his or her actions do not harm others.…

Gibbs model of reflection 1 Introduction College life turned out to be much different than what I expected and I was not ready for it even when I thought I definitely was. I was raised in a closely-knit family comprising of my father, mother and younger brother and me. All my life, till the day I left home to start a new chapter in my life, my parents had monitored my every move and essentially spoon-fed me because they wanted the best for and therefore I never really understood what the word ‘freedom’, that my other friends would talk about, meant. From making food, to managing money, my parents had done everything for me to the point that all I had to worry about was managing my studies, in which they also aided me by paying for private tuitions so I could clear the doubts that I had. Life was simple.…
