The memory receiver job is very important and special because there is only one person who is able to hold all of the memories for everyone. ”My job is very important and has enormous honor”(73). Every twelve got assigned a job but Jonas was selected, just as The Giver, which is more special. “Only Jonas and The Giver have the capacity to see beyond”(60). This evidence is important because only Jonas and The Giver can “see beyond” and they only know about other things that they used to have in the community but now they don’t. “She skipped me, Jonas thought, stunned”(54). Some people might think that it was a punishment for Jonas to be skipped but it wasn’t a punishment because Chief Elder could have made a mistake or also he could have been selected and not assigned. He was selected and everyone else was assigned so Jonas is honored and
