A perfect example is in Psalms 22:23 where it talks about fearing the Lord and showing Him honor. God is the most high and king of kings. I should act in a way that shows that God is Lord over my life. This means that I have to talk about Him differently than I would any ordinary person because He is far from ordinary. He is the all powerful and mighty ruler of all existence and I cannot take that lightly. The way I talk about Him has to be different. I have to worship Him without holding anything back. God deserves the highest honor which means I have to honor Him with my entire heart. In Isaiah 29:13 it says “These people come near me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me”. It says that to not do so without joy would give you no advantage. So basically, submitting should not be just some sort of act but a genuine choice. By not doing it out of joy would make it a burden that would eventually make you walk away from the promises that God has given you. If David had decided to hate Saul instead of submitting himself to his authority then he would have went against God’s plan and ended up the same as Saul.
