Hannah Grace takes in every face in the stands, the smells from the concession stand, the constant beat from the band, but most of all, finally a team to cheer for. Being a member of an organized squad is an all new experience for her.
After being home-schooled kindergarten through 12th grade, Grace had to make the transition into a college classroom setting and becoming a member of a coed cheer squad.

In the novel, Overachievers: The Secret Lives of Driven Kids, author, Alexandra Robbins, argues that it is not good for the students to be under an extreme amount of pressure in school and I certainly agree with this statement. Parents are often the ones who place an excessive amount of pressure on their children to succeed, even starting before they are born. This pressure that parents place on their children can lead to immoral behavior, such as cheating. The overachieving students may come across as perfect on the outside, but by having so much pressure placed on them to be perfect, they may get into a mindset where they focus too much on comparing their standardized test scores and GPAs with other students’, causing them to be left feeling…

Jared Korotzer Professor Grady Writing 1 31 October 2014 For School In John Taylor Gatto’s essay, “Against School,” Gatto draws on his extensive experience as a teacher to argue that the American public education system does not exist to make students their personal best, but rather aims to create a large, manipulable work force incapable of challenging its government. This, he argues, is achieved by forcing authority on students from a young age, and then proceeding to breed each student for his or her specific role in society. While “Against School” does present an intriguing view of the modern education system, Gatto severely underestimates the value of the academic and social skills students learn by attending school.…

While my friends were required to go to school from 6:20 in the morning to 3:30 in the afternoon, I was at home studying or on a field trip to some relevant lecture, the library, or a museum. Because of this less rigid environment, I usually had a lot of time available to me in addition to my school time. Using this excess time for my own personal interests, I developed a penchant for reading at an early age.…
