Reflective Essay: Why History Matters In The Medical Field

Why History Matters History Matters is in important topic to think about because not many people are interested in history. Before taking this class I thought history was a boring subject that I would not need later in life. Through this class I have learned that it is important to know what you are talking about, to look at sources carefully, and that history can be important to me in my future career. Through this class I have learned that it is important to gain as much information as possible to a subject that you are arguing about. This was an important lesson to learn quickly because during the arguments it felt as if no one was sure of what they were arguing about. When the two sides did not know what they were talking about the arguments felt as if we were all yelling nothing at each other. All of the yelling with no factual backup was not productive and did not get any points across. What a patient has gone through in his or her life will also affect the bees in their bonnet. Knowing a person’s patient history will help me provide them better care. This primary source will tell me what medications they are allergic to, family history, and previous medical problems. Without this information I would not be able to provide a patient with the best care possible. Another reason history will be relevant to me as a future nurse is that I should have some background knowledge about past procedures and tests that have happen in the medical field. This would be important for me to know because then I would be better able to understand the procedures of the hospital as well as bring my knowledge to benefit patient
