It shouldn’t be that way. This just makes the whole student / teacher relationship null and void. My personal reaction to the past was heartbreaking but I was grateful that I was born in a time that being black in America isn’t as harsh. I talk to a friend, Mitch that learned more about African culture in college and he doesn’t trust Caucasians because he feels nothing has change. He calls his belief Knowledge of self. Knowledge of self is based off of Black History, African culture, and African Religion. His understanding is that Caucasians stick together and hate him because he’s black. These are the effect of waiting and teaching true history. It can honestly go both ways but still create a divide because it depends on the person being taught. In November 1st, 2005 in Social Studies Jane Bolgatz wort an article about Discussing Race in Social Studies Class. She talks about teachers often steered clear of racism and relevance of race because it was uncomfortable. It is so important for our children to be taught the facts of history because talking about it will not change thing. Progress will not be made if we don’t know the issues. As people look for easy ways to write the truth in our books there will always be controversy no matter what. I will always feel like we shouldn’t hide the truth or water it
