One example of an opposing view would be Business Insider’s feature of James Altucher’s podcast, “College is a waste of time and money.” In the podcast, Altucher gave the viewer a brief overview of his background. Altucher attended college, majored in computer science, and also went to graduate school and ultimately, Altutcher received a job at HBO. After he was hired as a computer programmer, Altucher explained that he was extremely behind and that HBO made him take a remedial course for two months just to catch up with the lower level employees. Altutcher stated that all of the time and money he had dedicated to his college education was wasteful. The podcast listed several opportunities including, attending mission trips in different countries, joining and providing service to a non- profit organization, and pursuing a paid internship would benefit more from than going to college. From a very early age, I have been taught that the best way for me to reach my goals and to obtain success was to attend the best college and focus primarily on school, but throughout high school, I have realized that being successful does not mean that I have to exclude all of the activities that I enjoy. With the correct networking strategies and self-assurance, anyone can be successful. In my opinion, you should attend college, however, you should be diligent in your research as a student and find options that benefit your financial situation, such as two- year, vocational, and trade schools.
