Dr. R. Dawn Comstock of the Center for Injury Research and Policy “stresses that high school sports are beneficial because it keeps young teenagers from becoming obese and encountering weight related health problems.” Dr. Williams O. Roberts, a former president of the American College of Sports Medicine is in favor of school sports programs. Roberts agrees “that there are more overuse injuries among athletes, but I am still more worried about the high rate of inactivity and obesity in children. We need more kids to do a lot more and a few kids to do a little less.” Being an athlete in high school popularity is key. It leads into gaining confidence because they’re being looked up to by others and play as a role in only school sports. Sports advocates claim that high school football is a good way to show teamwork in a positive way. Having to interact with one another to play a good game and encourage their teammates to perform
