Why Do We Sacrifice Our Heroes

In a world filled with soldiers who lay their life on the line so we can sleep safely at night, police officers who chase down criminals, and fire fighters who run in burning buildings, we aspire to be Kardashians. The astronomical pay difference, striving to become a celebrity, and the lack of memorial services that our heroes receive is incredibly disappointing. As a citizen, I’m worried if our nation does not start respecting the substantial sacrifices our heroes make every day. The work that our heroes do is not for the money or the publicity, it is because they love what they do and they care about our country.
First of all, Children in today’s society are oblivious, as are adults, about the lack of respect that our heroes are shown. Young children see the millions of dollars celebrities make for doing nothing while our real heroes shed blood and sweat for minimum wage. They go to work every day and risk their lives for money that can’t even support their families. Celebrities are launching expensive makeup lines that get worldwide

Millions of people hear within minutes about a death because of social media. What we don’t see is coverage of a unit getting blown up who is fighting so we can sleep safe at night. Our nation’s heroes get some coverage but not as much as they should get for the sacrifices they make. Our society shows no respect for the men and women who fight for our country and keep our streets safe at night. When a community is mourning the death of a celebrity they hold vigils and write social media posts but rarely is there vigils and support for the families who only get an American flag wrapped up. Also, when celebrities pass a fund is set up for their family or a scholarship is set up in memory of them. There is nothing wrong with that because they are people too, but there also should be the same amount of scholarship and funds for the families of our nation’s

On Oklahoma postman rescued a young girl from a burning house, a paramedic bride helped people in a car crash, despite the fact that her wedding was still going on, and a marine who lost both feet in Afghanistan saved a baby from a car crash. They all had a choice to walk away and not care at all, yet they decided to take a risk and save a life. These courageous heroes didn’t even think twice about the possible harmful consequences of their actions. The actions of true heroes today are deemed as selfless only if they put their lives in danger to save someone, perform beneficial deeds without expecting anything in return, or take bold actions despite fears. Heroes that endanger their own life for the benefit of others are truly selfless.…

Veterans Day Writing Why are veterans considered heroes? Well here are a few things that come to mind when I think of that question. I believe that veterans are considered heroes because of their braveness, courage, and boldness. I mean, think about it some of us wouldn’t even go out and serve in whatever branch of the military, but these mighty brave men and women decided to take a stand for freedom and fight for our lives. Even though they might get wounded or even killed they took the time out to risk their lives for us.…

The people of the United States of America look to celebrities as role models, but many human beings do not see the great actions of the fallen or living soldiers, or anybody doing a heroic act for this country. America, the home of the brave and free, disregards acts of bravery because we are beyond occupied with the daily news of famous artists and actors. Americans citizens look to movies instead of the news. The United States feels empowered by movies, but it is not common to find that in a soldier. This “land of opportunity” is made possible by the fallen soldier, yet many citizens do not have the pride to thank them for…

Veterans are a group of people that write a blank check totaling their life to the government. They fight to defend our country and every American citizen. Then when their service is done they come home to be unnerved and underappreciated. Veterans are: mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, husbands, wives, and friends. The main thing we should do is make them known to others, so they know that we are there for them and let them know their service is more than appreciated, and we should let them know that and not let them be forgotten.…

Like Martin Luther King Jr. once spoke, I have a dream. I have a dream that all of our fallen veterans will be remembered, honored, and celebrated. Unfortunately, there just isn’t enough days in the year to honor them all with their own day. Luckily for us though, we have memorial day, a day to honor every veteran who ever died at war. Whether family or friend, or someone you read a story about.…

The Pentagon is paying sports teams several million dollars to present patriotic things. The pentagon signed 72 contracts worth $10 million with Major League Baseball, National Football League's, Major League Soccer and the National Hockey League teams. The Milwaukee Brewers were paid $49,000 to let the Wisconsin Army National Guard sing “God Bless America.” The New York Jets were paid $20,000 to recognize a few New Jersey Army National Guard soldiers as hometown heroes. When I was a small child, I remember sitting and listening, awestruck, as my great-grandfather recalled tales of his war experience. Once, his plane went down in the Pacific Ocean, and he survived for a week, floating in a crate on the ocean with no food, fresh water, or way to contact help. He very nearly died. Blessedly, he was rescued and escorted to safety. After hearing this, I had a newfound gratefulness that he not only had served his country, but that he made it home to his family.…

Soldiers that fight for our country sadly are not noticed by some of the people who live outside of the war. In The Gettysburg Address, a famous speech written by Abraham Lincoln, Lincoln writes a speech to dedicate a cemetery for those soldiers who had died in war. The real heroes of the war are those men who never made it out alive and they who did not make it out deserve the right to be remembered. Like Lincoln said, “We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that nation might live.” Many people might think that soldiers who come back are rich, but it does not work that way.…

I asked friends and family how they feel about death in our media and many said that they try and stay away from news channels due to the overwhelmingly sad information they tend to focus on. A few people said it made them feel very negative throughout their day if they chose to watch it in the morning, which I can understand. I was not surprised to find an article which stated that “much has been written about the effects of the media’s constant presence in virtually all homes in America” (Anastasio, Rose, & Chapman, 1999, p. 152). When something is reported in the media it spreads like a wildfire. When people are unaware of what is going on in the world, sometimes it is shocking to others who consistently stay up to date with the media.…

Some people do not know that they are even someone’s hero. When a person has the power to stand strong and fight for what they believe in they too can be a hero. These are the type of people that give others hope and save lives each and every day. You do not have to have super powers to save someone, you do not have to be in a position or a career where the main goal is to save someone’s life such as a doctor, a policeman or a firefighter. Heroes can be everyday people, such as a teacher; who teaches kids the everyday essentials of life to grow and be a better person, a parent; who guides and raise their children and protect their children, and even a janitor or trash man; people that help keep the environment clean for our safety and…
