He had a sacred animal represent him, which was a donkey, and he symbolized fire and metalworking (www.theoi.com). The website (www.theoi.com) also states that a characteristic he had, aside from his alleged deformed face, was the fact that he would always be seen walking around with a cane. I'm sure that this in addition to his birth defects made people look at him as even more of a deformity. In conclusion Hephaestus was a very nice god who tried his best to spread peace and happiness, if only the actions were reciprocated towards him by the gods, rather than them judging him for something he can't control. It's sad to say but even in the real world, we see kind people like him being judged and “pushed down”, kind of like how he was, due to how they were born. People should be looked at for their accomplishments and success, not their appearance.
