This is due to the fact that many people who consider themselves transgender are scared to let others know due to the persistence of transphobia in the US. Transphobia is the term for prejudice and hatred against transgender people. Transgender people are subject to constant name calling, intrusive and invasive questions, rape, physical attacks, and even murder. In fact, more that 50% of murders of LGBT are of transgender people. Even more shocking is that 73% of those murders are transgender women of color. Why is there so much discrimination against transgender people? How can this be stopped? People tend to be fearful of those who are different, and if every person goes through sex reassignment surgery, then everyone will be the same, and there will be a significantly lower amount of transphobia.
