Hands Make Us Who We Are Analysis

As human beings, we have the ability to create anything we can imagine because of our fingers and thumbs. We are extraordinary beings, making a life for ourselves by working our way to the top. We can make, extend, and terminate life, we can make amazing sculptures and machines, and we can live life the way we want it to, if we work hard enough. Hands make us who we are and my visual rhetoric is about the importance of hands. I chose this topic because of the diverse aspects of it; the different races, circumstances, and ages that all contribute to the theme. Every hand has a story. When I turned to Google and Bing for images that I could not get myself, I was shocked at the results. Following her, I collected three images that some may want to look away, a man that had his wrist amputated and two other man that use prosthetics. One prosthetic is an advanced robot with fingers and sensors, while the other is an old style split hook. These men are the definition of perseverance. They all had something that was a part of them and then ripped away, they lost part of their selves but gained so much more when they realized they had to keep going. For my seventh photo, I have an African American male, a close relative that did not what their name mentioned, however, is a hard-working man that fought his way up to the top. He is almost to retirement and it is well deserved, because he has worked his whole life and earned the right to spend the rest of his days relaxing. The next five works are my favorite because they tell the story of life itself. The one on the left is my father and the one on the right is his friend, they are rebuilding my 1968 car. They are very hard workers and never gave up on the task. Even though they still have jobs, they would go the garage every weekend until it was finished. They are
